Bay is a sweet angel who will do anything for a head scratch. Unfortunantly I think she went to obedience classes. I HATE those classes. Ok, I agree they work for people who don't want to bother training their dogs (or for some reason can't) and just want their dogs to obey commands. I prefer mine to know what I'm saying. Baylee is a "work in progress". She's very smart but she wasn't treated like it. The only way she will do what you say is if you say "Baylee, Sit!" or "Baylee, Down!" in an certain tone. It makes me crazy and I'm trying my best to teach her English. I hope that eventually she will perform as well as Lassie and sit if that's what I want her to do no matter how I say it (Lassie will sit on command to anything from "Sit!" to "Park it!" and it's the same with all her other obedience tricks. Note: The trick is teaching hand signals first then give the signal anytime you give any command for that action and eventually they learn what you are saying and no longer need hand signals, though it is wise to reinforce them.). Baylee makes me laugh. She has this pile of stuffies (some of which she stole from Lassie) and she loves them to pieces. She gives them food and water and she takes them outside to potty. It was so funny. The day after we got her I went shopping to get her a new collar, leash, food bowls, and a toy (she came with a collar and was using an old leash and food dishes). I got her an orange stuffed doggy and hoped she'd like it. I got home and gave it to her. She was so excited! She wouldn't put it down. She insisted on taking it on her walk that afternoon. She carried on her walk the whole way and only put it down once to sniff a neighborhood dog when he approached. then she scooped it up again and went on her merry way. Since then she has acquired many more and she loves them all. Another thing she did was when my gramma was visiting us. My gramma hates cold wet dog noses and she always told Baylee she didn't want that cold nose on her. Then Baylee started to go toward her and my gramma braced for the cold nose and Baylee stopped and went over to a towel on the coffee table and wiped her nose before going on over to my gramma. My garmma of course scratched her head after that since she was so sweet. Another time, I gave her and Lassie a doggy treat off of the pet food shelf and left the room. Baylee reached onto the shelf and got down a bag of fish algea discs (the come in a bag similar to her treats, but I moved the treats to a canister) and took it in and dropped it at my gramma's feet then looked up at her pleadingly. We all laughed and of course she (and Lassie too) got another treat. She's so silly. I rescued her from the pound. She'd been there over a month because her old owners had a new baby and she was too much trouble. She's a master escape artist and she's very needy. The pound lady told us when we got her that the first night she was there she let herself out of her cage and then had gone around and let all the other dogs out of their cages. When the workers had gotten to work the next morning all the dogs were running around loose. I remember the first time I saw her. She was sitting inside the fence (not in a cage, she had pretty much seen to the fact that she wouldn't be in the cages again) and the pound worker was out on a call. She was so cute and I wanted her so bad but she had a collar and tags so I figured her owners would be coming to get her. We came home and called the police station to get in touch with the pound worker and have her call us and meet us back up there (the pound was supposd to close in 5 minutes). She called and asked what we were looking for and I told her a dog. She asked "What kind of dog; big, small, longhair, shorthair?" I again just said, "A dog." She laughed and said, "Well, we have some of those." And we went back up there to wait for her she said it would be about 10 minutes because she was on her way back from out of town. As we waited I stood there staring at the sweet yellow Labrador and wishing she didn't have that stupid collar. The lady came up and started pointing out all the dogs that were available and I was looking at them and trying to choose and she said, "Then of course there's always Baylee, here." I turned and looked and the only dog there was the Lab I wanted so bad. I said, "Her???" in disbelief and she said, "Yup." and I nearly yelled, "I want her!!!!" She laughed and we went and did the paperwork. That's when we got her story. She actually should have been put to sleep 3 weeks before as they are only supposed to keep them for a week but she had grown on them and they just kept her around hoping someone would take her and they wouldn't have to kill her. AC Officers have actually stopped by to visit her a few times. I gave them some pics of her and her orange doggy for them to put up in the office since they all loved her so much. She was SUPPOSED to be an outside dog but about the 3rd day she was here she got out and disappeared over night. We stayed out half the night looking for her until they practically drug me home. We got up first thing and went looking again. We found her across town laying in someone's yard. We KNOW how she got out because of the time of "The Baylee Sightings" around the neighborhood. She got out because my dad left the gate open and wasn't watching her in spite of my protests and his guarrantees that she wouldn't get out. The first sightings occured before he closed the gate and left but he insists she was still in the gate when he left. So, since we couldn't figure out how she had escaped because she was "in there when he left", she's an inside dog now, which suits her and I fine. I love her so much and I'm so glad she was available. The piound lady said she was very needy and wanted to be next to someone and get petted all the time and boy was she right! That makes us a perfect match though because I'm home with her pretty much all day and always willing to supply head scratches.
